SwitchRTC Joins PROPS by YouNow

A call for developers

SwitchRTC and Props by YouNow

Over the course of the past year, SwitchRTC has worked closely with YouNow, a live streaming social media company with over 40 million registered users, on a large scale many-to-many video platform for the PROPS Project.

Further to this, it was a natural next step for SwitchRTC to join the PROPS by YouNow team on a mission to empower those people who contribute value to digital media networks through a blockchain-powered, decentralized ecosystem of many-to-many video applications.

Rize App

In this blog post, I’ll shed light on the PROPS Project and how developers can benefit from it.

The PROPS Project, an opportunity to build many-to-many video applications

YouNow was the first mobile app to facilitate a two-sided virtual currency economy in which users pay to buy virtual currency and creators earn revenue based on the engagement they generate. YouNow has shown that financially rewarding content contributors creates a flywheel effect that drives more content creation, consumer participation and network growth. With Rize, the first app on the PROPS Platform, the team can further fuel the flywheel by fairly and transparently compensating all participants – content creators, developers of new use cases and even regular users – on the platform.

Contributors are rewarded with a cryptocurrency called PROPS that unlock functionality, value and status within the community. Like Rize, additional apps built on the PROPS Platform can utilize the ecosystem’s WebRTC based many-to-many video platform as well as the tokens to ensure participants are rewarded in proportion to their contributions to the network’s health and stability.

PROPS Ecosystem

As illustrated in the image above, PROPS allow for third-party applications to join the PROPS ecosystem and benefit from 3 main things:

Many-to-many video platform available for developers

With the help of SwitchRTC’s technology, PROPS offers developers the opportunity to utilize many-to-many and few-to-many infrastructure. Developers interested in learning more about the technology and how they can get access to it should provide their details here.

Wallet

For the majority of users, PROPS will be their first cryptocurrency experience. This presents both an exciting opportunity to introduce millions of users to cryptocurrency and a significant responsibility to design an experience that is simple and secure. The PROPS team has prioritized the development of a mainstream-focused on-platform wallet that’s automatically integrated and synced across apps on the platform and between devices via an encrypted cloud backup.

A developers’ and users’ incentive plan

The PROPS Foundation will reward PROPS Ecosystem Partners with a regular distribution of tokens through its Partner Rewards Program. In turn, each Partner can incent contributors by distributing rewards to participants on its own app or platform.

Expanding the R&D team

If you are a developer with a strong background in VoIP and experience in RTP/RTCP as well as WebRTC internals, we’d love to have you join the team on our blockchain-powered journey. Engineers joining our team will deal with complex many-to-many video and WebRTC scaling technology challenges and have the opportunity to work with a team of experts in this field. Please see more information about the position and apply at the bottom of the page.
